Finding a good angle is not easy; you have to constantly move and work with your model. I was lucky that Alex (model) is such a great model and knows how to improvise 🙂 Gear: Canon 7D + Sigma 17-50 f2.8 OS HSM Settings: f4 | 1/250 | ISO 100 Strobist: 580 exii + 60″ collapsed umbrella on camera right @ 1/16 power Trigger: 7D’s built in trigger Post process: DRI’d 2 exposure for the background Dodging and burning Blending […]
I really like the model’s stance and look here together. I composed this shot thinking of showing the viewers what the place look like and get the feel of the grungy textures as well. Gear: Canon 7D + Sigma 17-50 f2.8 OS HSM Settings: f5.6 | 1/250 | ISO 100 Strobist: 580exii + 60″ reflective umbrella on camera right @ 1/8 power Trigger: 7D’s built in trigger Post process: Dodging and burning Color balance adjustments Curves adjustments Cheers! /Mike
This portrait was taken in a very unlikely place, anyway… those three holes are broken windows which nicely frames the surroundings of the place. This place offers a lot of grungy textures. This was shot in one of the abandoned villa in Ras Al Khaimah. It was a fun shoot and I would like to thank our model, Alexandra Lyubimaya, who’s very fun to work with. She’s our model, our stylist and make up artist! Gear: Canon 7D + Sigma […]

One of the best new year celebrations I had. We spend a coupe of days in a large private villa in The Cove Rotana Beach Resort in Ras Al Khaimah. The villa includes 3 big bedrooms, a large hall, cool dining area, balconies, equipped kitchen and a fantastic infinity pool. It is located on top a small mountain overlooking the beach. and to top it all, we had a ‘ferrari-red’ buggy to roam around the resort! This shot is from […]
As I said on my previous post, finding interesting angles is not easy; You really need to work it, you need to go around your subject and work your shot. It’s hard but its a lot of fun and that’s what matters I guess 🙂 Gear: Canon 7D + Sigma 17-50 f2.8 OS HSM Settings: f2.8 | I/100 | ISO 100 Strobist: 580exii + umbrella @ 1/16 power on camera left gold reflector on the left to fill in some […]
Finding an interesting shot in portraiture is quite different compared to landscapes. The thought process is different when composing; I myself find portraits more challenging because you need to capture a specific look which can happen at any moment, compared to landscapes in which you have more time to compose and get that perfect shot we want. But, both are very rewarding once the image in your camera matches the image you have in your mind. Gear: Canon 7D + […]
